Price evolution
A size- and quality-adjusted price index per fossil type (hedonic regression),
indexed to 100 at each series' first period. Unlike $/inch, this isolates real
price movement from changes in size and quality mix — so the lines show how each
type actually appreciated, on a common scale. Switch to Standard specimen $
to read the fitted dollar price of a median-sized, clean specimen of each type over
time. Most lines are quarterly; thin-but-tradeable series (e.g. T. rex teeth) fall
back to an annual index, marked in the legend. Single-species lines are most
reliable; "(various)" groups, annual lines, and pre-2023 levels (from archived
listings that captured only top-priced items) are noisier — read those as indicative.
